Extended opening hours now available at your GP practice

GP Practices across Telford and Wrekin are participating in the delivery of the national extended hours service. This service allows patients to be able to see a local GP, nurse or other healthcare professional for extended pre-bookable appointments including in the evenings and at weekends. Please ask at Reception for further details.

FLU VACCINATIONS 2018 The government has decided that different types of flu vaccinations will be offered to patients depending on which age group you fall into this year. If you are 65 or over by 31 March 2019 then the clinic for you to book into will be held on Saturday 29 September or Saturday 10 November 2018. Please contact reception to book your appointment.

If you are between 18 and 64 by 31 March 2019 and are identified as being within the "at risk group" that the Government informs us qualifies for a flu immunization then the clinic for you to book into will be held either on Saturday 6 October or Saturday 20 October 2018. Please contact reception to book your appointment.

Due to the complexity of ensuring that each patient is given the correct vaccine, we will not be allowing different patient groups in the same clinic or booking flu vaccinations in the nurse's routine clinics as in previous years.

Ironbridge Medical Practice would like to welcome Dr Jesvin John. He is a qualified doctor who is joining our team in order to experience General Practice for the next four months. He is supervised by both Dr Mehta and Dr Eli.

REVISED OPENING TIMES From 1st June 2018 our opening hours will be 8.20 till 6.00 and the telephones will be answered from 8.30 onwards. "On the day appointments" will not be released until 8.30am for that day's morning session and 12.00 for that day's afternoon session.

Named GP for all patients. From 1st April 2015, the practice is required under the terms of the latest GP contract to allocate all patients a named accountable GP. If you wish to be told the name of your accountable GP, please ask the receptionists when you are next in the surgery. Having a named GP does not prevent you seeing any other doctor in the practice. Your named GP will not be available at all times and if your needs are urgent, you may need to discuss them with an alternative doctor. This notice applies to all patients at Ironbridge Medical Practice, including children. Patients over 75 have already been informed of their own GP.

 111

NHS 111 service to take calls out-of-hours across Telford and Wrekin and Shropshire from 17 July 2018

From Tuesday 17 July 2018, patients across Telford and Wrekin and Shropshire who need urgent out-of-hours medical help or advice will need to call 111.

The NHS 111 service will replace the current out-of-hours GP telephone access service provided by Shropdoc in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin in line with national policy to provide a consistent, integrated approach to urgent care; but any patients that need to see a clinician out-of-hours will still be seen by a local GP or other appropriate clinician.

NHS 111 is much more than a helpline - if you're worried about an urgent medical concern, you can call 111 to speak to a fully trained adviser. Depending on the situation, the NHS 111 team can connect you to generalist and specialist nurses, or even a GP or pharmacist, and can arrange face-to-face appointments should you need one. It is free and available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

There is also a new ‘ASK NHS’ app that has been designed that provides improved access to NHS 111 and other local NHS services. Advice is delivered by the virtual clinician ‘Olivia’ and she takes you through the steps of the symptom checker which can result in the booking of a GP appointment, access to NHS choices, a call back from a clinical expert or access to self-care.

You can download the ‘Ask NHS’ app via Google Play (for Android phones) or Apple App Store (for iPhones). If you need more guidance on how to download the app please click here.

If you are a patient living in Wales you should continue to use the Shropdoc number.

**This scheme applies only to patients who do not have to pay for prescriptions or who have a pre-paid certificate.**

The pharmacist can provide all the appropriate advice and treatment and the patient will not need to be seen by the GP unless the pharmacist feels it is advisable. Patients can self refer to this service, which is currently set to run until 30 September 2016, and will need to give the pharmacist their NHS number, proof of identity and proof of exemption from prescription charges.
